Wyevale Garden Centres PLC is a chain of 105
garden centres in the United Kingdom. The first garden centre was opened in the 1960s on Kings Acre Road in
Hereford where a local nursery was that sold plants by mail-order from the 1930's. In 1987 it became a
PLC. It is now listed on the
London Stock Exchange. The chain expanded rapidly in the 1990s and also acquired
Country Gardens in 2000. Throughout 2007, the chain have also bought Blooms Garden Centres (8 Centres), Sanders Garden Centres (2 Centres) and Peter Barratt's Garden Centres (3 Centres).
The company's main office still remains in Hereford.
At the end of September 2006 it was announced that after a 16 month campaign by
Animal Aid, Wyevale Garden Centres announced a new policy decision to stop selling live animals in its stores.
